Wedding Pictures
Your wedding day will probably be the most memorable day of your life and wedding pictures provide a lasting reminder of that special day. A good wedding picture will capture the atmosphere of the day, provide something you can share with friends who are unable to attend as well as being a record for you and future generations to look back on in the future.
Here are a few summary tips to help you get the best possible wedding pictures.
Finding a Wedding Photographer
We’ve added a list of recommended wedding photographers to our site but here are some other things to consider:
- Book early – the best wedding photographers get booked early and are often busy.
- Always take a look at wedding pictures they’ve produced for other weddings before booking, most photographers will list examples of their work online these days.
- It can be a good idea to ask a bridesmaid/family member to help you decide.
Know What You Want
Wedding pictures can be shot in many different styles, take a look at the wedding photo’s section to help give you some ideas. Here are some questions to ask yourself and help give you/your photographer a clear idea of what you’re after:
- Traditional or a more modern ‘journalistic’ style of photographs.
- Use of colour – are you after black and white shots or any other effects (such as ‘sepia’ toning).
- Do you want an action shot with confetti or bubbles in the air and do you mind if that’s staged for the photo rather than spontaneous.
- Do you have any special requests e.g. do you have family or friends travelling a long way and what a photo taken with them.
How to Judge a Photographer
Some useful points to remember when reviewing examples you’re given by potential wedding photographers.
- Does the album show the whole story of the wedding from start to finish?
- Would you feel happy with your version of the wedding pictures you’re shown.
- Do the wedding pictures show much detail (things like the cake and peoples expressions when shot from distance).
- Are there a good mixture of pictures close up, at a mid distance and long range?
Remember at the end of the day to ask your wedding photographer questions and give them as much information you can about what you want the final outcome of your wedding pictures to be – the more they know the better chance you’ll get just what you want.
